Day 12: Independence Pass via Aspen

I’m finally catching up on my posts from yesterday’s activity, Tuesday, July 25th.

I started the day at my base in Glenwood Springs and headed down to Aspen and eventually up to independence pass, my third time crossing the continental divide on this trip. What a great ride once I got past Aspen. I have to say that Aspen was underwhelming. And well gas prices around the area are about $4/gallon. The gas station in Aspen wanted to charge me almost $6/gallon. That wasn’t happening.

Once clear of Aspen, it was a tremendous climb and ride up to Independence pass, a beautiful stop to enjoy the sights.

I was originally going to continue and do a giant loop back to Glenwood Springs, but decided that after traversing down the mountain to the town of Twin Lakes, I just reversed my trip and enjoyed climbing back up and then back down again. Great ride and I’ll hopefully share some videos and some scenic photos.

In terms of how these rides have met my expectations I can safely state they have met my expectations in terms of ride ability and challenge, and exceeded my expectations in terms of scenery. The majestic mountains in the distance, and up close in some cases, are just incredible, and provide a beautiful backdrop while you’re cruising along.

I was actually a little apprehensive about some of the roads when I looked at them on the map but once you get there, they’re definitely achievable and lots of fun. I logged 265 miles today bringing my total over 3000 miles, 3046 miles to be exact.

I’ll do another post later describing my ride today from Glenwood Springs to Ouray, Colorado where I am right now. Amazing ride via Grand Mesa

The road at climbed up to get here.

A couple I met from St. Louis. Robert and Michele. They took my blog site, and I said I would post a photo of them!
