Day 17: West Coast Arrival
Today I completed the East Coast to West Coast!! I arrived at the Santa Monica Pier by noon before heading up the coast towards San Fransisco. I’m now in Prismo Beach where took a partial dip in the Pacific Ocean to celebrate!
It was a fantastic day for riding with diverse terrain and weather. Starting off in the San Bernardino Mountains at Big Bear Lake, I headed down the mountain towards the coast. It was quite a number of twisties and up and downs a real pleasurable ride. Once down in the valley, I started on the infamous California freeways towards Santa Monica.
Californians have a unique way of referring to their freeways. They use the word “the” like it’s their personal acquaintance. So instead of I-10 it’s THE 10 and THE 405. 😆
Anyway, I took THE 210 and THE 605 and THE 10 to Santa Monica.
After obligatory photos and sense of accomplishment of reaching the “left coast”, I headed up the PCH. What a great ride through Malibu, Santa Barbara and other beach towns. Riding with the ocean just off to my left was really spectacular and made it a COOL ride, both literally and figuratively.
I logged almost 300 miles today bringing my total to 4416 miles.
I made it to the West coast!
