Day 9: Rest and Regroup
Since I accelerated my arrival to Georgetown, CO by a full day, I have today to do things other than riding on a bike. I saw some pamphlets in the lobby on horseback riding but probably will skip that. I’ll do some local hikes, clean and make some adjustments to the bike, and just relax. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be back on track and start with a ride north doing the Peak to Peak skyway up to Estes Park and then over the Continental Divide via Rocky Mountain National Park where I can use my Lifetime Senior Pass to gain “free” entry. (Yes, I’m proud of it! Proud I remembered to bring it too! 😁)
I can also use this day to acclimate to the higher altitude; I’m at 8500 feet. And prepare my wardrobe to the lower temperatures. It was 45 degrees this morning and forecast to get into the 70s, so I’ll have to take the layered approach.
Mileage update: After yesterdays epic Iron Butt 625, I’ve traveled 2,336 miles. That’s close to half of the trip in terms of miles. Here are a few local photos.
